MEET AYLI QUINTEROS AND THE MISHKY CACAO COOPERATIVE
Just a few years ago, drug trafficking violence dominated Ayli Quinteros’ Peruvian village. Ayli and other female villagers were determined to improve the situation for their families and neighbors. They joined together to launch a cocoa cooperative, producing a small profit of $2,700 per year. Realizing this was not enough to sustainably feed and care for their families, Ayli teamed up with TechnoServe. Working with TechnoServe, Ayli’s village learned how to improve their production, sales and marketing. Today, these women are running a successful chocolate company, earning over $2,700 per month! With the extra profit, the women have invested in upgrading the cocoa-processing plant in their community.
“The local economy and our community have changed and everyone laughs, sings and is free to enjoy.” - Ayli

WHY WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS?
In many developing countries, women face tremendous barriers to success. They have limited access to the land, finance and information they need to grow their farms and businesses, and they are disproportionately affected by poverty, violence and discrimination.
By providing the tools, resources and connections they need, TechnoServe is empowering women like Ayli, Olive, Mala and Eugenie to become successful entrepreneurs and fight poverty in their communities.
The PIMCO Foundation has agreed to match all gifts to this campaign, up to $5,000. The PIMCO Foundation, the charitable arm of global investment management firm PIMCO, launched a multi-year, multi-million dollar partnership with TechnoServe in 2011. That same year, PIMCO and TechnoServe also created the Emerging Enterprise Program (EEP), a global pro bono volunteer program that sends PIMCO employees to Latin America to put their business acumen to work addressing daunting societal challenges.
To date, PIMCO has committed $3.5mm and deployed 17 employees from across the firm to serve as Volunteer Consultants for TechnoServe. EEP is steeped in the idea that given the chance, hardworking men and women in even the poorest places can generate income, jobs and wealth for their families and communities. And as a firm of just 2,400 global employees, this pledge of finances and human capital defines our culture and commitment of service to the broader global community.
Ultimately, through this collaboration, PIMCO and TechnoServe work as thought partners. With a relationship built on trust, both PIMCO and TechnoServe operate with a transparent, actionable and forward-thinking agenda, which in turn creates real social and sustainable impact for both our employees and the entrepreneurs who receive life-changing support.
*NOTE: The impact numbers used in the 'She Fights Poverty' peer-to-peer campaign are based on TechnoServe's single largest entrepreneurship program. To help deliver the most effective solutions to the greatest number of people, your donation will be combined with other funds and used wherever it is most needed.
